Granny Smith Apples-TK Family Farms
Granny Smith Apples-TK Family Farms
The Granny Smith is a bright green, hard and famously tart apple variety first propagated in 1868 by Maria Ann "Granny" Smith in Eastwood, New South Wales, Australia.
It has bright, vivid emerald-green skin that can develop a soft yellow or pale blush cast if left to ripen longer. The dense, crisp, and very juicy white flesh has a sharp, acidic, and tangy profile.
Granny Smith Apples are great for:
Baking: A favorite for pies, tarts, crisps, and cobblers because the dense flesh holds its shape well under heat rather than turning to mush.
Fresh Eating: Popular sliced with peanut butter, paired with sharp cheeses, or tossed into salads (the high acidity also slows down browning).
Juicing: Used widely for tart cider and fresh green juices
“Grannies” are also renowned for an exceptionally long storage life.
Crossings procures our apples from TK Family Farms in Rutherfordton, North Carolina.
