SunCrisp from TK Family Farms
The SunCrisp apple is a firm, crisp, yellow to orange blushed apple variety from Rutgers University.
It was originally created by crossing Golden Delicious, Cortland, and Cox's Orange Pippin.
Taste & Characteristics
Appearance: Medium-to-large, round-conical shape with a golden-yellow skin and a distinctive orange-to-red blush.
Texture: Dense, firm, crisp, and juicy with slow-browning ivory flesh.
Flavor Profile: High in both sugar and acid, offering a sharp sweet-tart taste with floral, honey, and pear notes that mellow into complex caramel or aniseed undertones after a few weeks in storage.
Uses & Storage
Culinary Uses: Great for fresh eating, salads, slaws, charcuterie, and cooking or baking (in pies, tarts, and crisps).
Shelf Life: Stores exceptionally well—retaining crispness and intensifying in flavor for 1 to 3 months in home refrigeration and up to 5 to 6 months in commercial cold storage.
